Protecting the Family Jewels
Financial security and family are two of the biggest driving forces in life – so why do we find it so tricky to talk about the interconnection between these two topics?
Over the years we’ve found ‘protecting the family jewels’ is a source of concern for many of our clients. How best should our clients structure their assets to preserve them? How can they keep the bank happy by providing timely financial information? Even, how can our clients protect their beneficiaries’ inheritances from disaffected spouses…
MC-d by Matthews Steer’s Charith Mandiage, our ‘Protecting the Family Jewels’ event in April tackled this difficult topic from three angles with Bank West’s David Considine, Matthews Steer CEO Ken Matthews and Peter Guy from Kennedy Guy Lawyers all offering their unique insights.
Each provided practical, applicable tips and tricks and tools for implementing processes to that would help attendees prevent the pitfalls within what can be an enormously emotionally charged arena.
The speakers then took part in a panel discussion and open Q&A covering the red flags banks look for with clients:
- How can you construct a will that will protect offspring if their marriages or relationships suffer?
- How can you structure transactions as gifts to offspring to protect them from creditors.
The positive response to this event was overwhelming, to the point that we had to break the attendees into an evening session and a lunch session the following day to cope with demand.
