MATTHEWS STEER APPOINTS NEW GOVERNMENT GRANTS ADVISORY LEAD
MEDIA RELEASE – ESSENDON FIELDS – September 13, 2021
Melbourne mid-tier accounting and advisory firm, Matthews Steer, has announced the appointment of Gary Twomey as Partner – Government Grants Advisory.
A specialist in strategic analysis and business planning with a focus on R&D funding, export marketing development, and capital grants, Mr Twomey offers industry-leading knowledge and experience of government support programs, and has assisted clients to obtain government grants in excess of $350-million in his 20 years as a consultant.
Matthews Steer founder and managing director, Ken Matthews, said Mr Twomey’s expertise would enable his firm to offer clients government grant advisory services of a calibre normally associated with Big Four accounting firms.
“Melbourne businesses are facing monumental and unprecedented challenges, and are avidly seeking solutions that provide them with a competitive advantage, so to have a partner of Gary’s stature joining us at this time is outstanding,” said Mr Matthews.
“The government grants ecosystem evolves more frequently and dramatically than any other area of our business, and application processes and criteria are complex. Gary is pre-eminent in this field, he has his finger on the pulse, and has helped secure hundreds of millions of dollars in government grants for clients over the years.”
Having worked in conjunction with Matthews Steer on a number of projects over the past decade, Mr Twomey said he had embraced the opportunity to join the firm as a partner.
“Matthews Steer is highly regarded by its clients and the Melbourne business community, and Ken's energy and enthusiasm for entrepreneurship and innovation is infectious,” said Mr Twomey. “The firm has a strong, positive workplace culture, and everyone is on-board and committed to helping our clients, and each other, to maximise their potential.
Mr Twomey said Matthews Steer is perfectly poised for expansion – both of its own business, and of the clients the firm supports.
“There is currently a range of state and federal government funding available that address the issues facing businesses based in Melbourne’s North West and beyond,” said Mr Twomey. “This funding has been put in place specifically to support local industry, and the risk to clients is that they miss out on funding that their competitors may be leveraging, and the associated advantages those grants bring.”
Established in 1990, North West Melbourne’s premier business consultants, Matthews Steer, has evolved from a one-man practice, to a partnership of ten, with more than 50 staff working across a suite of accounting and taxation, wealth management and business advisory services.
Mr Twomey is the fourth partner appointed at Matthews Steer in 2021, as the firm aggressively pursues its goal of doubling the size of its business over the next three years. His appointment follows the announcement of Christine Brown as Partner - Wealth Management in June, and the promotion of associates Nidal Mazloum and Matt Caruso to partner in July.
