Matthews Steer officially got the party season under way with a ‘Women in Business’ cocktail event hosted for staff, clients and friends on November 30. General Manager, director and associate Catherine Duncan welcomed attendees to the event as guests mingled, networked and enjoyed a feast of festive food and drinks.
With the holiday season leading to a packed diary of socialising and entertaining clients, Matthews Steer invited along Alison Wright, nutritionist and founder of ‘Alimentary’, to offer timely advice on how to survive the party season ahead.
Alison and Alimentary’s mantra is ‘Nutritional Advice for a Happier Life’. Before founding Alimentary, Alison worked with ‘The Age’ newspaper in advertising and manufacturing for more than 20 years revealed that the fast paced, high pressure environment resulted in her leading an unhealthy lifestyle. Her nutritional choices meant that at the shop close to work she was known as ‘The Tim Tam lady’ and she never exercised.
Anxious, moody and susceptible to nasty bugs going around the office, she decided that she needed to make changes.
“I started to make a few small changes and I couldn’t believe the difference it made,” Alison said.
“I felt happier and more content as a person. I thought, I need to tell everyone about this! I wanted to help people make the connection between what they eat and how they feel and I wanted them to make that connection quicker than I did.”
Alison, who offered advice such as researching menus at restaurants before your visit and not leaving the house or office hungry to help you avoid over indulging, also talked about how to manage alcohol consumption during the hectic Christmas period when client lunches dominate your diary.
“Having an alcohol plan is a really good idea. Think about having a water in between drinks if it’s a very long lunch!”
At the end of Alison’s speech, Matthews Steer general manager Catherine Duncan revealed she often visits Alison’s Facebook page for healthy recipe inspiration. If you too would like to find out more about Alimentary, you can visit Alison’s website here.
