25 March 2024
Last Friday we hosted our March 2024 Success Stories Breakfast featuring Bertocchi Chairman, Tony De Domenico OAM.
The Bertocchi journey started in 1955 when Modesto Bertocchi opened the first sport cafe in Lygon Street, Carlton for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. On the back of this success Modesto ventured into property and his craft, butchering meat, developing a network of butcher shops around Melbourne. In 1972, he purchased 4 hectares of land in Thomastown.
50 years on, Bertocchi Smallgoods now sprawls across 10 hectares at the original Thomastown site and continues to grow, taking the next step in its journey, to Melton, the company’s biggest investment in growth since its inception.
Their new world class processing facility is unprecedented in its scale and vision and will give Bertocchi the capacity to meet the growing demand in their existing markets as well as launch them into other food categories.
Tony joined us at our latest Success Stories Breakfast to share his experience of working with the leading manufacturer of continental smallgoods in Australia, and how they continue to grow as a family owned and run business while maintaining the authenticity and quality they are known for.
He shared insight about understanding the right time to establish a Board, how they have continued to reflect the family values that are the cornerstone of the Bertocchi brand, and how Bertocchi is keeping pace with Australia's developing landscape of compliance and regulation, and resource availability.
Whatever your measure of success – growth, awards or customer loyalty – there is no doubt that the Australian owned and operated business is making a mark in Australian manufacturing.
It’s always a pleasure to host these events and have so many great minds and business leaders come together to share their experiences and learn. Thank you to our MC Dougal Beatty, and our event partners NORTH Link, Melbourne's North Food Group and Commonwealth Bank.
