Anthony Seneca named Matthews Steer Employee of the Year
Anthony Seneca (pictured, right, with Ken Matthews) has been named Matthews Steer’s employee of the year at the firm’s annual Recognise, Encourage, Reward (RER) Awards, held at the RACV Club Melbourne on 21 July, 2023.
A member of Matthews Steer’s tax and business advisory team since 2019 and recently appointed Associate, Anthony was presented the employee of the year award in recognition of his leadership potential, accountability, and commitment to best-practice. “Anthony’s outstanding relationship-based approach, and his contribution to – and shaping of – our firm’s culture, were a shining example over the past 12 months” said Matthews Steer CEO, Ken Matthews. “Anthony actively seeks out responsibility, and proactively looks for ways to refine our practices and procedures to improve the quality of our service to our clients, and elevate the experience and professional development of his colleagues.”
For the first time in RER’s history, Matthews Steer awarded two recipients the MSCA Rising Star Award; the accounting team’s Lewis Kennedy, and admin team’s Maddison O’Nial. “The Rising Star Award isn’t presented annually, and is reserved for employees who make such a significant impression on our business that it cannot be ignored,” said Ken. “Lewis and Maddison are both such employees, demonstrating outstanding commitment and progress in their respective fields over the past 12 months.”
Nicholas Kyratzis received the Contribution to Culture Award, which is presented annually to the employee who demonstrates outstanding commitment to Matthews Steer’s mission, vision, purpose and values, is a team player, with a positive attitude, a willingness to share their knowledge, and takes an innovative and proactive approach to the business.
“Nicholas is passionate about his role within our Innovation and Grants Services team, and has demonstrated an equal enthusiasm for the social side of our workplace community, ensuring that our social events are entertaining,” said Matthews Steer COO, Catherine Duncan. “His positive attitude has driven the success of ‘Vibe Club’ in the past 12 months, and his enthusiasm has captured the imaginations of his colleagues and taken the social side of our business to the next level.
Matthews Steer’s Most Significant Personal Growth Award for 2023 was presented to Senior Accountant Alexandra Lukies in recognition of her willingness to learn, take on additional responsibility, and her commitment to achieving her career aspirations.
“Alexandra has accepted every new responsibility offered to her without reservation this year, and has embraced the opportunity to learn new skills and facets to her roles as she progresses along her career pathway at Matthews Steer,” said Catherine.
Matthews Steer’s Contribution to Community Award, which reflects the firm’s purpose; ‘Empowering our communities to live their potential,’ was awarded to the Innovation and Grants Services team’s Richard Wraith for his commitment to enriching both the Matthews Steer’s workplace community, and the communities in which the firm operates.
A highlight of Matthews Steer’s annual social calendar, the RER Awards celebrate achievement at the highest level within the firm, recognising, encouraging and rewarding professional and personal development excellence at a gala dinner event and Oscars-style awards ceremony.
“I am incredibly proud of this year’s RER Award winners, impressed by the depth of talent in our firm, and grateful for the commitment our people demonstrate to our business and our wider community,” said Ken Matthews. “It’s exciting to me that we are seeing new faces come through this year, and to award two Rising Stars is a first for our firm that reflects the appetite our people have to fulfilling their potential.”
“Matthews Steer is committed to treating our people as more than just numbers, and this year’s award winners are the strongest affirmation of our people and culture strategy, and a testament to the power of the RERs to affirm, engage and motivate our people.
“Our determination to growing our talent, and equipping them with the technical and leadership skills they need to become world class accountants, advisors and administrators, is ongoing. We’re committed to giving our team opportunities to expand their capability and achieve their career and personal goals, while providing our clients with the best people to guide them in all aspects of their financial and business management.
“I congratulate this year’s winners on their appetite for self-improvement, their determination to reach and exceed their potential, and their loyalty to our firm, and I’m excited to see where their respective career paths take them in the coming months and years.”
