Information AusTrade Export Market Development Grant
Program Aim
The Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) scheme is the Australian Government's key financial assistance program for aspiring and current exporters. Administered by Austrade, the purpose of the scheme is to encourage SMEs to develop export markets.
EMDG reimburses up to 50% of eligible export promotion expenses above $5,000 to a maximum grant size of $150,000 per annum for up-to 8 years.
Eligibility
- Australian based company, individual, partnership, association, co-operative, statutory corporation or trust
- Revenue up-to $50M per annum (per ABN)
- The business also must have promoted one of the following:
- the export of goods and services
- the delivery of services outside Australia
- certain services in Australia to non-residents
- inbound tourism
- the export of intellectual property and know-how
- conferences and events held in Australia
- Total eligible expenditure greater than $15k

Grant Amount
- Companies can claim between $5k and $305k of eligible expenditure per annum, with grants of up to 50% available.
- Provides up to 8 years’ worth of grants to each eligible applicant.
- First claim can include the 2 prior years (must have spent at least $20,000 over two years).
- If successful, businesses receive a grant up to $40k cap as the first payment within about 2 weeks. The balance >$40K is paid the following June on a pro-rata basis (approx. 65%) based on a total annual funding cap.
