Working in Our Community
Matthews Steer is a local business with a deep commitment to North West Melbourne.
Corporate responsibility is a foundation pillar of our business and this is reflected in our purpose ‘empowering our communities to live their potential’. Our team members embody this purpose, participating in a range of activities that enrich the local community in which we live and work.
Victoria Police Kokoda Project
Established by the Victoria Police in 2006, the Kokoda Project builds relationships with young living on public housing estates in Flemington and North Melbourne with the aim of pro-actively decreasing the incidence of youth crime, and improving relationships between the young people, police and the wider community. As part of the program, each year the Victoria Police takes a group of students from schools within the Moonee Valley area to Papua New Guinea for a trek at the famous Kokoda Track. The program has played a significant role in changing the lives of participants, police and sponsors.
Matthews Steer has held a fundraising breakfast in support of the Victoria Police Kokoda Project for the past 10 years, raising funds for this valuable community project, and a number of our team members and clients have participated in the trek over the years.
Heart Kids
Heart Kids is a charity dedicated to supporting children with congenital heart disease and their families through research, advocacy, support and awareness. Matthews Steer supports Heart Kids with a number of fundraising events each year including Super Boss Day, which sees bosses dress up as super heroes in exchange for sponsorship. This year team members raised more than $5000 for Heart Kids on Super Boss Day and Matthews Steer has raised funds for this valuable community project.
Rotary Club
Matthews Steer has been involved with the Rotary Club of Tullamarine, as a corporate member and supporter, for more than 10 years. Partners Geoff Steer and Anthony Flapper are active members of the club, Anthony serving as club treasurer for a number of years, and the team has participate in a number of local community events and projects including 24 hour swim-a-thons, gala events and the operation and management of ‘breathometer’ machines. Matthews Steer continues to support Rotary Club Tullamarine through fundraising and contributions to international aid projects.
Avondale Heights Football Club
Having played football for Avondale Heights as a young man, Partner Adrian Misiano now works with the club, sourcing sponsorship and organizing fundraising events including the annual community car show. This passion to contribute to the club’s long-term future is born of an understanding and appreciation of the benefits of team sport Adrian enjoyed through his childhood involvement with the club, and a desire to ensure new generations of local children enjoy those same benefits.
