Joseph Seneca appointed Associate at Matthews Steer

Matthews Steer, North West Melbourne’s preeminent accounting and advisory firm, has promoted Joseph Seneca to Associate, expanding the firm’s executive team to 10 Partners, two Senior Principals and one Associate.

A CPA qualified accountant with more than 17 years’ experience, Seneca has accomplished something of a meteoric rise through the ranks during his three-year tenure, achieving a promotion from supervisor to manager within 12 months of joining the firm in 2019.

Managing Partner Ken Matthews said Joseph demonstrates outstanding leadership and accountability skills; key attributes on the path to partnership.

“Recognising a member of our team as having the attributes to become a future partner of our firm is a significant event for our executive group,” said Ken, speaking at Matthews Steer’s annual Recognise Encourage Reward Awards on July 22. “It’s a major barometer of the health of our business when we see talented young people coming through to continue their professional pathway in senior positions.”

As with all appointments to the executive team, Joseph’s promotion was a unanimous decision by all 12 existing partners.

“I very much enjoy working with Joseph,” said Ken. “He has an inquisitive mind, demonstrates excellent entrepreneurial skills and he understands business, a vital skillset moving forward. He is positive and calm – attributes we all value –he has a strong knowledge of accounting and he isn’t afraid to share that knowledge – and his opinions – so he makes an invaluable contribution to every file he works on.”

Joseph said the promotion affirmed career goals he set himself prior to joining Matthews Steer.

“I’m grateful to the whole executive team for this appointment, they’ve all provided guidance, support and mentoring at various points in my journey so far,” he said.

“Three years ago, I came across to Matthews Steer seeking career progression and opportunities, and each year I’ve achieved a milestone. As a team, we are extremely privileged to have such a diverse group of executives to learn from here at Matthews Steer and I’m very excited to be joining them. My fellow team leaders have also been incredibly supportive. They’ve made it a joy to come to work, and as a collective we make a great team.”

Joseph said his appointment was testament to Matthews Steer’s commitment to investment in their people, and desire to grow and develop them as accountants and advisors.

“Our purpose is ‘empowering our communities to live their potential’ and, as a firm, we live and breathe that,” said Joseph. “Our commitment to career development means our people have the knowledge, skill and capability to offer our clients advice far beyond the services available at other suburban firms of our size. I believe our offering to our clients is unique and, coupled with our culture and purpose, offers a wealth of opportunity to our clients.”
