Anthony and Joseph Seneca Appointed Partners at Matthews Steer

Matthews Steer is proud to announce the appointment of brothers Anthony Seneca and Joseph Seneca as Matthews Steer Partners, marking an important milestone in both their careers and the next chapter of leadership at the firm.

It is not every day that an accounting and advisory firm welcomes two new Partners at the same time. It is even less common when those two Partners are brothers.

For Anthony and Joseph Seneca the achievement is the result of years of hard work, professional development and a shared commitment to Matthews Steer and its clients.

Both joined Matthews Steer in 2019 and have built their careers within the firm, progressing through increasingly senior roles while developing strong client relationships and making a meaningful contribution to the people and culture around them.

Their appointments were formally recognised at the Matthews Steer RER Awards Night at RACV Club Melbourne on Friday 7 August.

Anthony Seneca: A reputation built on trust

Anthony joined Matthews Steer in 2019 as a Senior Accountant and has steadily developed into a trusted adviser, leader and mentor within the firm.

His progression to Partnership reflects more than technical capability. Throughout his time at Matthews Steer, Anthony has built a reputation for professionalism, organisation, attention to detail and a disciplined approach to his work.

Those qualities have made him someone both clients and colleagues can rely on.

Anthony is also known for being approachable and generous with his knowledge. Rather than simply providing an answer when someone brings him a difficult problem, he takes the time to explain the thinking behind it — helping those around him build their own capability.

That approach reflects an important part of leadership at Matthews Steer: developing people rather than simply managing them.

As Jack Delmo noted when presenting Anthony’s promotion, “Partnership is about trust.”

It is the trust of clients who rely on you with important decisions, the trust of colleagues who turn to you when things become difficult, and the trust of the next generation of team members who look to their leaders for guidance.

Anthony has demonstrated that trust consistently throughout his career.

His contribution to Matthews Steer has also extended beyond his client and technical responsibilities. He has previously been recognised as Employee of the Year and through the firm’s Humorous Awards, reflecting the combination of professionalism, leadership and personality he brings to the workplace.

Joseph Seneca: Leadership through action

Joseph joined Matthews Steer in 2019 as a Supervisor and has similarly built his career through a consistent willingness to step up, take responsibility and support those around him.

His promotion recognises the strong relationships he has developed with clients and colleagues, but perhaps more importantly, the way he leads through his actions.

Joseph is someone who puts his hand up when something needs to be done.

When the team is under pressure, he helps. When someone needs support, he is there. And when responsibility needs to be taken, he does not wait for someone else to do it.

That willingness to contribute to the broader team has been a defining part of Joseph’s time at Matthews Steer.

As Jack Delmo reflected during the promotion presentation, Joseph has demonstrated “leadership through actions” — not because of a title or position, but through the way he consistently shows up for the people around him.

That is particularly important as he steps into Partnership.

As a Partner, Joseph will have an increased responsibility to develop others, build strong teams, contribute to the firm’s culture and help shape the future direction of Matthews Steer.

It is a responsibility he has already been preparing for through the way he has approached his career to date.

Two brothers, one shared journey

While Anthony and Joseph have developed their own careers and individual strengths, their promotion to Partner creates a unique moment in the history of Matthews Steer.

Both joined the firm in 2019. Both have progressed through the business. And both have now reached Partnership at the same time.

Their achievement also reflects the support they have received outside the workplace.

Anthony’s wife, Maria, and Joseph’s wife, Celeste, were both acknowledged during the RER Awards presentations for the support they have provided throughout their husbands’ careers.

Professional achievements rarely happen in isolation, and recognising the people behind the scenes is an important part of celebrating milestones such as these.

Looking ahead as Matthews Steer Partners

For Anthony and Joseph, becoming Matthews Steer Partners is a significant achievement — but it is not the end of their journey.

Partnership brings a new level of responsibility. Alongside continuing to support clients, they will play an increasingly important role in developing people, strengthening teams, contributing to the firm’s culture and helping shape the future of Matthews Steer.

For the team members who have worked alongside them and those who are beginning their own careers at Matthews Steer, their progression also provides an example of what a long-term career with the firm can look like.

Both Anthony and Joseph have spent the past seven years developing their skills, taking on greater responsibility and building trusted relationships. Their appointments demonstrate the opportunities that can come from investing in your career, contributing to your team and consistently stepping up when it matters.

We are incredibly proud to welcome Anthony Seneca and Joseph Seneca to the Matthews Steer Partnership.

Congratulations, Anthony and Joseph. We look forward to seeing the impact you will make in this next chapter of your careers — and in the future of Matthews Steer.
